The Building Products (Safety Bill) 2017 is a long overdue attempt to address the significant concerns of residents and construction experts surrounding the use of unsafe building products, in particular flammable aluminium cladding. 

The Refugee Advice and Casework Service [RACS] is at the forefront of the greatest humanitarian crises around the world. As more comes to light about the plight of Rohingya refugees and the asylum seekers abandoned on Manus Island, the work of organisations such as RACS has never been more vital.

When it comes to public transport policy this Government has shown nothing but contempt for the people of the inner west. In the past month we have learned that the Government will be ripping out 35 more bus stops across the inner west. This will affect commuters on the 412, 422, 423 , 426 and 428 routes. 

I am proud to represent an electorate that is diverse, resilient, compassionate and engaged—and electorate that is home to bold community groups such as Mums 4 Refugees.

The Environmental Planning and Assessment Amendment Bill 2017 amends the Act that underpins planning regulations in New South Wales. These measures aim to tidy and to streamline planning processes across the State. I will briefly address some of the elements of the bill that may have the greatest impact. 

Jo continues to defend our bus systems from privatisation. Privatisation of public buses has not worked, either overseas or in New South Wales. This is an embarrassing record, but still the transport Minister thinks he is onto a good thing. Enough is enough. If it is good enough to listen to a poll and name a new ferry Ferry McFerryface, then it is good enough to listen to the 20,000-plus residents who have signed these petitions. It is time the Minister admitted his mistakes and left our Inner West buses in public hands.
