Southwest Metro to open
Friday 30 October 2026
It’s been a long wait, but the ride will be worth it!
We finally know when we’ll be able to jump on board Metro, and our Inner West Community is ready to go.
This is going to totally change the way people move around the Inner West, South West and our City. Marrickville to Gadigal in just 12 minutes will be a total game changer.
The magic of Metro with its fast, frequent and reliable services is coming. This means more people will choose public transport and that’s a win for everyone.
Get started
From Monday 26 October you can plan your trip using Trip Planner.
You can find out all about the new Metro service here.
Walk, ride or bus to your station
Leave the car at home when you can. Car parking near stations is limited and local roads are busy, so walking, riding or catching a local bus to the metro is the easiest way to start your trip.
Local buses connect to each station. Skip the traffic: walk, ride or bus to the station, then let the metro take you further, including catching more 413 buses to the Metro at Campsie or the 418 to Sydenham.
There are more ways than ever to walk to your new metro station, with new entries, paths and the new Dulwich Hill station plaza connecting the village, buses and light rail.
There are plenty of local routes and cycleways to your station, including the GreenWay connecting to the Metro at Dulwich Hill.
Stations now have more bike parking, including secure spaces, and dedicated Sharebike parking is in place or coming soon at every new metro station. You can find more information about Bike and Ride here.
Our local stations
You can find out detailed information about each of our stations using this Station Guide. These guides include key information on bike parking, accessible access, interchanges with bus and light rail, shared bike parking locations and more.

MetroWay
MetroWay is a 13.8km walking, running and bike path that will run alongside the Metro, joining the GreenWay at Dulwich Hill. You can find out more about MetroWay here.
