June 20 marks the beginning of Refugee Week.

Communities work best when people of many different backgrounds and experiences come together and I am proud and honoured to celebrate the legacy of the Italian community in building our wonderful, diverse Inner West.

I acknowledge The Village Project in Summer Hill for its terrific work leading the way towards making all aspects of our community more sustainable.

Congratulations to Hanna Mohammed and Ethan Krumins from Ashfield Boys High School and to Varun Laal and Selina Jin from Marrickville High School on being recognised as this year's Summer Hill Secondary School Leaders by the New South Wales Parliament.

Tyrone and Joshua are a testament to the future of the inner west and have gone above and beyond to make a real difference for someone in need.

I warmly congratulate Chai Walli tea shop in Summer Hill, which has been awarded Micro Business of the Year at the India Australia Business & Community Awards.

Reconciliation Week begins and ends on the same dates every year, acknowledging the successful referendum recognising First Nations people on 27 May 1967 and Eddie Mabo's Native Title case on 3 June 1992.

I acknowledge the tremendous contribution Kerry Chambers has made to the community during her twenty years of service as Principal of Marrickville Public School.
