There was good news last week with the announcement that negotiations with Inner West Council over the operation of the new preschool have been successful, guaranteeing the future of the award winning Globe Wilkins Preschool.

The preschool, which has an excellence rating, has operated on the grounds of Wilkins Public School for over twenty years. Growing enrolment at Wilkins meant classrooms used by the preschool were needed for kindergarten classes. Parents and carers connected to the preschool were eager to see the preschool live on and Save Globe Wilkins was born.

Save Globe Wilkins led a positive, creative and constructive campaign that called for a solution that met both the needs of the school and ensured the future of the preschool. Thankfully, the Minister for Education and Early Childhood Education heard their calls and committed to building a new purpose-built preschool at the school. Fit out works are due to start imminently and the preschool will open next year.

I congratulate and thank the parents and carers of Globe Wilkins, as well as the P&C and Wilkins school community. This is a fabulous outcome and a win for public education and early childhood education in our community.
