Question on Notice to the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure regarding the costs of opal card infrastructure and the loss of revenue when opal card readers are unavailable.

That this House:

1. Notes recent reports that Transport for NSW was asked by State Transit officials to review Region 6 bus timetables a full two years before taking action.

NSW Labor has challenged the Minister for Transport to immediately abandon his privatisation of Region 6 buses following the tabling of a second 10,000 signature petition opposed to the plans.

Notice of Motion regarding 14,000 signatures signatures from commuters and residents opposed to bus privatisation in Region 6 and the call on Government to abandon plans to privatise our inner west bus services. 

The Budget ignores key community infrastructure in the inner west, with only one local school receiving badly-needed classrooms and little support for residents on housing affordability, transport, or child-care. 

Students on our university and TAFE campuses are fighting to guarantee an educational experience that is equitable, accessible and safe for all. They are fighting back against university funding cuts and the imposition of trimesters that squeeze them for money while reducing the quality of their education. They are fighting the threat of $100,000 degrees, fed up with politicians who went to university for free repeatedly jacking up their fees.

The Minister for Transport, Andrew Constance, today refused to answer questions about whether the Government’s Bus Rationalisation Program, which removed dozens of key stops throughout the inner west just a few months ago, was a ploy to privatise the bus service by stealth. 

1,200 public transport workers in the Inner West will be cut, according to Rail Tram and Bus Union of NSW estimates. These are the same workers who only six months ago were assured by the Government their jobs were safe for five years.
