Question on Notice to the Minister for Education regarding Dulwich Hill Public School and the rezoning for the Sydenham to Bankstown Urban Renewal Corridor.

That this House:

1. Notes there are concerns that the Government plans to catch communities unaware along the Sydenham to Bankstown railway line with an extra 25,000 more units in addition to the 35,000 units included in its draft plans for mass rezoning.

This letter constitutes my formal submission to the exhibition of the Sydenham to Bankstown Urban Renewal Corridor – specifically the Dulwich Hill Precinct Plan, Marrickville Precinct Plan and Sydenham Precinct Plan.

The Berejiklian Government has failed to plan for any new schools in the Sydenham to Bankstown growth area – despite 100,000 extra people moving in.

The Sydenham to Bankstown Corridor Strategy will bring an additional 35,000 dwellings into existing crowded suburbs over the next 20 years.

Before I delve into the detail of the issues, I need to disclose that I live with my husband and son within the Dulwich Hill Precinct. These plans potentially affect half of the Summer Hill electorate and I stand with you as both a Member of Parliament and an affected resident.

After an agonising fourteen month wait, the Minister for Planning has finally announced the Government’s updated plans for the Sydenham to Bankstown Urban Renewal Corridor.

Ashbury is an irreplaceable heritage suburb. We can’t this Government’s overdevelopment agenda destroy such a unique community.
