Question in Notice to the Minister for Education regarding the procedural response from the Department of Planning and/or the Minister for Education if a Principal requests advice as to how to enrol a student whose SRE Participation Form is not returned.

Jo Haylen MP, Member for Summer Hill, today expressed her ongoing support for the young women, activists and students fighting for action on the issue of sexual assault on campus, in light of the Australian Human Rights Commission report released yesterday.

The fury the P&C Federation is expressing over primary students being forced to waste their precious school hours is absolutely justified. The NSW Special Religious Education regime is an anachronistic mess. It is 2017 and we cannot afford to be profligate with the precious time our children have to learn. 

Jo Haylen MP, Member for Summer Hill, has expressed outrage that the West Street Petersham TAFE site has been left virtually empty following delays from the Department of Education in moving Open High School to the site. 

The Budget ignores key community infrastructure in the inner west, with only one local school receiving badly-needed classrooms and little support for residents on housing affordability, transport, or child-care. 

Jo Haylen, Member for Summer Hill, today welcomed the Minister for Education’s acknowledgement of the toxic culture at residential university colleges and that the Government would review the Acts that govern them. 

For almost 10 years, Ms Ruth Bradfield Ling, principal of Marrickville West Public School, has been fighting alongside parents, students and neighbouring residents for a second set of flashing lights outside the school on Beauchamp Street, Marrickville. 

Jo Haylen, Member for Summer Hill, is calling on the Minister for Education, Rob Stokes, to add his voice to those calling for an end to the misogynistic culture of St Paul’s College and immediately move to review and update the governing Acts of all residential colleges to meet community expectations in 2017.

Students on our university and TAFE campuses are fighting to guarantee an educational experience that is equitable, accessible and safe for all. They are fighting back against university funding cuts and the imposition of trimesters that squeeze them for money while reducing the quality of their education. They are fighting the threat of $100,000 degrees, fed up with politicians who went to university for free repeatedly jacking up their fees.
