This week and next, students are celebrating orientation, O-Week, on university campuses across New South Wales. 

Shadow Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, Jenny Aitchison, Shadow Minister for Women, Sophie Cotsis and Member for Summer Hill, Jo Haylen have today launched NSW Labor’s ‘It’s Time for Action’ campaign.

Jo Haylen, Member for Summer Hill, today condemned the decision of St Paul’s College not to participate in the University of Sydney cultural review being undertaken by Former Sex Discrimination Commissioner Elizabeth Broderick AO.

Paid domestic violence leave is critical to support victims and help them keep their job.

Paid domestic violence leave offers certainty where there would otherwise be none. It enables women and children to leave abusive relationships. It provides space and time for women to get themselves back on their feet.

Marrickville Legal Centre has had its funding for a domestic and family violence worker restored after funding ceased on June 30. The Centre will receive a $100,000 grant to fund the service following the intervention of Jo Haylen, Member for Summer Hill, and Sophie Cotsis MLC.

Notice of motion calling for action at St John's College and to provide greater support to victims of sexual assault on campus

Sexual assault anywhere, anytime and committed by anybody is an unforgivable act. The alarming incidence of sexual assault on university campuses must no longer be ignored. 

Jo Haylen, the Member for Summer Hill, gave a stinging speech in Parliament today condemning the Minister for Education’s failure to act on a 2014 request from St John’s College to reform its council following the near-death of a student in 2012.
