The Canterbury community is invited to participate in a new survey to help shape planning for the largest upgrade to Canterbury Hospital in 26 years.

The NSW Government is investing $350 million in the Canterbury Hospital Redevelopment to expand the current facility and deliver upgrades to existing infrastructure.

The Lead Design Team for the project was appointed in March 2024 and is working with Health Infrastructure and Sydney Local Health District to determine the key clinical service priorities and progress the planning for the redevelopment.

Master planning is underway for the redevelopment which will outline the vision for the site and identify the location of key aspects of the hospital such as clinical services, parking and future expansion areas.

The survey, which can be completed online, provides the community the opportunity to have their say and help shape planning for the hospital redevelopment.

Feedback is being invited until Monday, 30 September. A link to the survey can be found here: https://forms.office.com/r/wf8YvPnPiX

The scope of the project and indicative timing of the works will be finalised during planning and design. Staff, stakeholders, and the community will be updated as the project progresses.

The population of the Canterbury-Bankstown Local Government Area is forecast to grow by 13 per cent in the next 12 years, with an estimated population of 443,000 residents by 2036.

The NSW Government is investing $3 billion for new and upgraded hospitals and health services across greater western Sydney, one of the largest investments in the region’s health infrastructure in recent years.

This includes:

  • An additional $400 million to build the $700 million Rouse Hill Hospital
  • $550 million for Fairfield Hospital, in its first major redevelopment since it opened in 1989.
  • $120 million investment to expand capacity at Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals
  • $540 million to build an Integrated Mental Health Complex at Westmead Hospital
  • $1.3 billion to build the Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital on a new site, the first major investment since the two hospitals merged in 1997.
