That this House:
-
Notes that the new Higher School Certificate (HSC) physics syllabus references 25 scientists a total of 56 times, but does not mention female physicists or their contributions to the science.
-
Notes that this will discoruage girls and women to study science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM).
-
Calls on the Minister for Education to immediately review the physics HSC syllabus and to ensure girls are taught about pioneering women in STEMM including Ruby Payne-Scott, Professor Marie Curie, Dr Rosalind Franklin and Dame Professor Jocelyn Bell-Burnell, among others.
