Families and schools close to a planned WestConnex exhaust stack believe pollution from the tunnel will exacerbate the already high prevalence of chronic circulatory and respiratory conditions in the area.

The government intends to build an unfiltered smoke stack less than 500 metres from Haberfield Public School, the Ashfield Infants Home and other childcare centres and nursing homes.

Labor MP for Summer Hill Jo Haylen​ has called on the Baird government to immediately halt plans for the tunnel exhaust stack, arguing that parents are worried about the quality of air their kids will be breathing.
