I was saddened to hear of the recent passing of Terry Williams, a beloved figure of the Newtown Rugby League Football Club. Terry was dedicated to his Newtown Jets and was the club's long-time historian. In the early 1990s he wrote his first book on the Jets 'Out of the Blue: The History of the Newtown RLFC' and it quickly sold out. He went on to write another history of the club and established the Sydney League News magazine as well as working as the communications manager and historian for both NSW Rugby League and the ARL. His passion for rugby league history saw him appointed as the curator of the NRL's official museum at Moore Park and in 2018 Terry was invited by Australian coach Mal Meninga to address the Kangaroos and Jillaroos squad. Terry played a crucial role in selecting the Newtown Team of the Century, contributed regular articles to the club's website and was an ever-reliable MC at Club events. Terry Williams passed away just hours after hosting the club's 2026 club launch, a Newtown devotee to the very end. My condolences to Terry's family, friends and to the Newtown Rugby League Football Club.
