I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Jack Passaris OAM, well-loved and integral member of the Marrickville community. Jack was a former Deputy Mayor and Councillor of Marrickville Council, serving the community tirelessly for 19 years. Jack had an inextinguishable passion for helping others, serving as the Chair, and later Board Director, of Multicultural Care, an organisation dedicated to providing culturally sensitive care for older people in the multicultural community. Jack was also a Life Member of the Ethnic Communities' Council of NSW, President of the Greek Orthodox Parish of Newtown for 46 years, and held various positions at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia Consolidated Trust and Foundation for Hellenic Studies UNSW. Jack's community contributions were recognised when he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 2009, and in 2014 when he was awarded the Premier's Lifetime Multicultural Community Service Medal. Jack will be remembered as a passionate advocate for multiculturalism and someone who embodied the caring community spirit of the Inner West. Vale Jack Passaris OAM.
