Aristomenis Spyropoulos was a much-loved member of our Marrickville community. Aristomenis was the man behind Athena Cake Shop, alongside his wife Athena, they together ran the iconic cake shop in Marrickville for the past several decades. At 12 years old, Aristomenis discovered his love for pastries, working at a cake shop in Patras. Aristomenis and his wife Athena went on to own their own cake shop called Astoria in Nafpaktos. They would later leave Greece for Australia with their two children Efy and Kosmos and start their own cake shop, Athena Cake Shop, in Marrickville. Aristomenis and Athena's cake shop brought an abundance of Greek pastries, sweets and an enthusiastic energy, quickly becoming a cornerstone of the Marrickville community. Aristomenis' legacy goes beyond Athena's cake shop, with his community spirit, generosity, and unwavering commitment to serve the Marrickville community contributing so much to all of us over many years. I extend my deepest condolences to Efy and Kosmos, their families and his many friends. Vale Aristomenis.
