I was honoured to attend the recent re‑opening of HJ Mahoney Reserve on Saturday 13 April, along with many members of local sporting teams and representatives from Inner West Council. Inner West Council, NSW Office of Sport, and AFL invested $2.3 million to upgrade HJ Mahoney Memorial Reserve's amenities and improve the valuable green space. This project has delivered on its goal of modernising the existing amenities to a fit for purpose community sports facility that is inclusive for all playing groups. Improvements included upgrading the grounds and lighting, as well as improvements to the changeroom facilities to make them accessible and all-gender friendly. An upgraded officials' room and kiosk, external lighting and new external shade canopies were also completed for added protection and security. A special thanks to Mayor Darcy Byrne, Newtown Breakaways FC president, Tiffany Chen and Sydney Women's Baseball League president, Holly Creenaune, whose collaboration made this upgrade possible. Congratulations to all involved!
