Jo Haylen, Member for Summer Hill, today slammed comments by the Chair of the Greater Sydney Commission that she wasn’t aware houses were being demolished in Haberfield.

“It beggars belief that the Chair of the Greater Sydney Commission has no idea about the destruction of heritage homes in Haberfield,” said Ms Haylen.

Ms Turnbull made the comments while spruiking Westconnex on ABC radio this morning. Over 120 homes and units have been demolished in Haberfield and Ashfield.

“The National Trust described the destruction in Haberfield as the worst hit to heritage in Australian history, but the Chair of the Greater Sydney Commission has no clue about what is going on,” Ms Haylen said.

“Ms Turnbull’s comments are a slap in the face to the hundreds of families and residents who have lost their homes in an unfair acquisition process,” Ms Haylen said.

“All along, we’ve been told that heritage is important, but this just shows how little the Government cares about preserving our history.”

“The Greater Sydney Commission states as one of its core aims that it is there to listen and engage with all Sydneysiders,” said Ms Haylen.

“Haberfield residents won’t be thinking much of that today.”
