Father Chris Riley's Youth Off the Streets is a wonderful not for‑profit organisation which has been doing crucial work since 1991. I am proud that many of their services – including Don Bosco House – are located in the Summer Hill electorate. Youth Off the Streets supports young people with housing, addiction and substance abuse, justice support and employment skills. This year, they're raising awareness about youth homelessness with the Great Couch Sleepout. For many young people, homelessness is invisible: One in three of the 42,000 young Australians accessing support from Youth Off the Streets in 2020‑21 were couch surfing, often after fleeing unsafe home environments. In the lead up to Youth Homelessness Matters Day on April 20, Youth Off the Streets are calling on the community to raise awareness by participating in the Great Couch Sleepout. On the night of April 20, supporters will swap out our beds for the couch, and snap a pic for social media to ensure youth homelessness does not remain invisible. I encourage everyone in the community to get involved and thank Father Chris Riley's Youth Off the Streets for raising awareness around this important issue.
