Teigan Butchers was recognised this year in the Amy Large Volunteer Awards for their outstanding work in advocating for LGBTQIA+ inclusion in sports. They are the president of the Inner West Roller Derby League, and play for the Bamshees team within the league. Teigan is an inspiring figure to LGBTQIA+ people across the Inner West and has brought the Inner West Roller Derby League into the limelight. During World Pride, the league played for international audiences, and has also been platformed at Luna Park, and in news media spaces. The League hosts regular social events across the Inner West, including at the Robyn Webster Centre in Tempe. The importance of LGBTQIA+ representation in sport at this current moment is hard to overstate and Teigan has used their voice to include LGBTQIA+ people, and make them feel safe playing sports. Congratulations Teigan, it is a joy to know your hard work is being recognised and celebrated.
