I thank the many volunteers and staff from the Marrickville and Ashfield SES units, who, along with many others, gave up their time, left their families and headed north to help in the preparation and response to Tropical Cyclone Alfred. They attended to many fallen trees and damaged roofs, performed flood rescues and assisted with sandbagging and checking in on members of the community. Whilst the cyclone weakened from our initial predictions, it did cause significant rain and damage to northern New South Wales and over the Queensland border. Recovery efforts will continue for some time through the NSW Reconstruction Authority and other emergency services personnel. We are incredibly grateful to the Marrickville and Ashfield SES volunteers, brilliantly led by commanders Liam Hogan and Sharon Buckley. I thank them for their dedication and selfless service to those in need in our State, both in the northern New South Wales disaster zone and for their ongoing commitment to our local inner west community whenever we are in need.
