I loved joining students, families and staff from St Joan of Arc Primary School, Haberfield to take part in Walk Safely to School Day 2026. Walking alongside the school community was a great way to highlight the importance of road safety while also encouraging healthy, active habits from a young age. Now in its 27th year, National Walk Safely to School Day promotes safer streets, better health outcomes for kids, and helps reduce traffic congestion around schools. Walk Safely to School Day is also a great reminder of the role local communities play in promoting road safety, starting right outside the school gate, and the St Joan of Arc community are a great example of this in action. Thank you to Principal Amanda Gahan, Senior Constable Farrelly from NSW Police Force Youth Command, and the whole St Joan of Arc school community for getting involved and for the warm welcome on the day. Events like this show how schools, parents and the wider community can work together to make school journeys safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
