Sixteen Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence commences on 25 November on International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and runs until Human Rights Day on 10 December. The campaign is aimed at raising awareness and triggering action to end the epidemic of violence against women. As part of 16 days of Activism, the Inner West Council is partnering with the Women and Girls Emergency Centre to host a free, online workshop aimed at empowering inner westies to be active bystanders and help prevent violence against women. In Australia one woman a week is murdered by a current or former partner. The event will teach participants how to have safe and supportive conversations with people impacted by domestic and family violence about domestic violence. I thank the centre and the council for their ongoing support to women and children fleeing domestic violence, and for empowering the inner west community to tackle this issue. I stand with all those in my community and across the globe in our fight to end violence against women.
