I recently had the pleasure of attending the annual Inner West SES Volunteer Recognition Night. This event is an opportunity for the Marrickville and Ashfield-Leichhardt SES units to celebrate their volunteers for their ongoing efforts and commitment to the emergency services and our local area. Almost 200 trained and active SES volunteers attended the event in Ashfield Council Chambers. It was incredible to hear that in the past 12 months, Marrickville and Ashfield-Leichhardt SES volunteers assisted in over 700 requests to provide emergency help to their local community. This ranged from storm damage to flood rescues, and searches. On top of that, more than 20 local SES volunteers were deployed to Cyclone Alfred, the recent flooding in northern NSW, and to emergency events in Victoria. A special mention is deserved for Chris Sulter from Ashfield-Leichhardt Unit who has selflessly committed her time for 30 years! Well done to Julie Powell from Marrickville Unit, and her team of volunteers for organising such a special and uplifting evening. And a huge thank you and congratulations once again to all the hard-working volunteers who received recognition for their dedication and service to our community.
