I recently had the opportunity to visit Sanctuary Housing in Ashfield to see their vital work supporting women and children escaping domestic violence and experiencing homelessness. Since 2017, this local group has been a lifeline for families in crisis. Last year alone, Sanctuary Housing accommodated 1,521 women and 1,040 children, providing over 18,000 bed nights and 10,000 meals, along with 24/7 security and essential support. What makes Sanctuary Housing special is their understanding that safety means keeping families together. They are one of the few pet-friendly facilities in Sydney, accommodating 300 pets last year. Chair Nicole Clarke has been a passionate advocate for homelessness solutions since 2014, recognised as a Westfield Hero in 2021. Her leadership, alongside CEO Justin Clarke, ensures every woman who seeks help receives support through the Safe Pathways Program toward stable, long-term housing. Sanctuary Housing represents the best of community-led solutions to homelessness and domestic violence. Their compassion and expertise are making real differences in women's lives. Thank you Nicole, Justin and the entire Sanctuary Housing team.
