Congratulations to Marrickville Football Club, The Red Devils, on celebrating 80 years of community football. Founded in 1945 by Bruce Livingston and Arthur Ireland, the club entered its first teams in 1946, and has called Mackey Park home since 1958. Eight decades on, Marrickville FC has grown into one of the largest community sports clubs in NSW, with more than 2,000 members and teams from Under 6s to Over 45s, including boys, girls, women's, men's, mixed and All Abilities teams. Socceroos legend Tim Cahill is the club's most famous alum. But the true measure of this club lies beyond the numbers — in decades of volunteers, coaches and parents building a club founded on inclusion and belonging, with a place for everyone. This year, the club faced heartbreaking loss, and the community rallying together showed this club is about far more than football — it's about care and looking after one another. Congratulations to President Bill Drossos and Managing Director Georgie Kokokiris for your leadership. Well done to everyone who has worn the red and white, and every volunteer, player, coach and supporter who built this great club. Here's to thriving until your centenary and beyond.
