That this House:

1. Notes calls from the University of New South Wales and the Australia Conservation Foundation for the platypus to be listed as a threatened species in New South Wales.
2. Notes platypus observations in New South Wales have declined by a third in the last 30 years and that the species may have declined by more than 50 percent due to land clearing, river regulation and extreme droughts.
3. Calls on the Government to list the playtpus as a threatened species and to urgently act to save yet another iconic Australian species at risk of extinction.
