Jo Haylen, Member for Summer, moves that this House:

  1. Deplores the Federal Minister for Immigration's recent accusations that asylum seekers and refugees were self-harming as a tactic to get to Australia.

  2. Notes that these comments are not isolated, including characterising those who seek asylum as illiterate and innumerate and accusing Save the Children of leaking the Nauru papers.

  3. Calls on the Government to affirm its support for asylum seekers and to convey to the Minister for Immigration that when he chooses to vilify and denigrate those seeking asylum and the community groups that support them, he does not speak for the people of New South Wales.
