Ms JO HAYLEN (Summer Hill)—The inner west is Sydney’s cultural capital. The Perfect Match program, which I initiated as Mayor of Marrickville, has grown from a small trial to a pivotal part of the council’s annual Edge festival. The program has been immortalised in a new book by street art guide and graphic designer Melinda Vassallo, paying homage to some of the program’s greatest creations and capturing so much of what we love about living in the inner west. Perfect Match brings together inner west residents and businesses to collaborate and create one of a kind street art. Perfect Match sees any unused wall as blank canvas for a potential inner west masterpiece. Stunning murals blanket our suburbs, including the latest contribution from Mulga the Artist, an intricate and colourful mural on the wall of Taste Organic on Enmore of an orang-utan playing a guitar. In 2019 alone Inner West Council has commissioned over 20 new street art pieces, from talented contemporary Sydney artists. I congratulate Melinda on the publication of her new book, and congratulate all the artists involved in this year’s program: you are making the inner west an even brighter place to be.
