The Newtown Neighbourhood Centre has again opened its doors to the public following the COVID-19 lockdown. For the past few months, the NNC has been continuing its vital work across the Summer Hill electorate and Inner West community. They have supported people sleeping rough and residents living in boarding houses, worked closely with organisations like the Addison Road Community Centre and Connect Marrickville to deliver food hampers to vulnerable people facing food insecurity. The Centre has provided critical support to families affected by COVID-19, connecting them to essential items like groceries, medications and phone data, as well as helping people to navigate the complex pathways to government support. The Centre worked to increase support and awareness over Mental Health Month, running online art and music therapy groups, a drag story time event and other Wellness Wednesdays events. Importantly, the Rev Bill Crews Foundation worked with the NNC to offer free Pfizer vaccinations at a vaccination clinic at the Centre. I congratulate Liz Yepo and all the staff and volunteers at the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre for their hard and important work over the lockdown and wish them the best as they reopen their doors again.
