Congratulations to the Newtown Jets who added to their rich club history by winning the NSW Cup, beating the North Sydney Bears 28-22. Winning their first premiership since 2019 the Jets bravely hung on in the final minutes of the game as the Bears threw everything at them. Thank you to all the many dedicated fans who show up to support the Jets; at 117 years and going strong they are not just one of the oldest clubs but clearly the coolest! Congratulations to Coach George Ndaira, Captain Billy Burns, all the players, supporters, volunteers and everyone associated with the Jets on an amazing season. Sadly, we cannot celebrate this great victory without also acknowledging the passing of Mr Barry Vining OAM, long time president of the club. Barry was President for 32 years, keeping the club alive, along with Terry Rowney, through the long years with no teams playing. Also a recipient of the Order of Australia medal, Barry made a significant contribution to business as well as rugby league. I offer my deepest condolences to Barry's wife Vicki, immediate family and all those who knew and loved him.
