I am proud to represent an electorate that is diverse, resilient, compassionate and engaged—and electorate that is home to bold community groups such as Mums 4 Refugees. I met with representatives of the group last week to discuss the inner west's commitment to welcoming refugees and the humanitarian crisis unfolding on Manus Island. Mums 4 Refugees is a national community of mums established to engage mums from across the political spectrum in advocacy for refugees. It is also providing practical assistance for refugee families through crowd-sourcing necessities such as food and baby supplies. They also offer tangible assistance through providing connections to social, health and legal supports.

Mums 4 Refugees is about to launch its annual Seasons for Justice campaign. Last year members and supporters crowdfunded the salaries of two dedicated lawyers to advocate for families in detention for the National Justice Project. The Seasons for Justice campaign is due to launch again shortly, and I urge everyone who cares about equality and human rights to support this important initiative.
