Congratulations to the The Mudcrabs on their 20 year anniversary. The Mudcrabs are a local, ecological volunteer group which cares for Goolay'yari (The Cooks River) and its foreshore environment by collecting rubbish, restoring bush along the river, and so much more. The group holds regular working bees, runs guided walks, and conducts wildlife and bird surveys along this important tributary. I was thrilled to attend the anniversary celebration and launch of the commemorative book for the Mudcrabs, held at Marrickville Golf Club on Saturday 15 March 15th along with my colleague the Member for Canterbury, Sophie Cotsis, Inner West Mayor, Darcy Byrne and Deputy Mayor, Mat Howard. This is indeed a significant milestone for The Mudcrabs, who have contributed so much to restoring the natural beauty of the Cooks River. Volunteers' work in revitalising wetlands at Cup and Saucer Creek has provided native animals with habitat and a natural filter for stormwater. Thank you to Gareth Wreford, Ranjith Evas, Peter Munro, Ann Leahy, Jennifer Newman and all the Mudcrab volunteers who have contributed tirelessly to the last 20 years of care for the wonderful Cooks River.
