Mardi Gras Season has begun, with thousands of people turning out to support the LGBTQ+ community at Mardi Gras Fair Day on Sunday 20 February at Victoria Park. The event featured a First Nations Circle, presented in partnership with BLAQ Aboriginal Corporation, four stages jammed packed with live performances, the Doggywood Pageant, and over 200 community stalls including lots of local inner west organisations including the Newtown Breakaways, Flying Bats, Rainbow Families NSW and Inner West Roller Derby League. A special shout out to the excellent volunteers from Rainbow Labor for their tireless efforts in organising for the day. Fair Day has carved a special place in the community and it was heart-warming to see the community celebrate together after years of being kept apart by the pandemic. I congratulate all those at Mardi Gras for another successful and safe Fair Day, warmly thank all of the local community organisations who took part and did their bit to support the LGBTQ+ community, and finally wish everyone a safe and Happy Mardi Gras.
