I wish to congratulate Dan Waterworth from Petersham Juniors Rugby Club for winning the Volunteer of the Year Award at the recent Magpie Sports Awards. The Magpie Sports Awards recognise and reward outstanding achievements by sports people and their organisations in the local community that is served by Wests Ashfield. The awards are now in their 62nd year and a gala dinner was held in May to celebrate all the nominees and winners. Dan is Petersham Junior's (the Shammies) club coach and the father of three rugby loving sons who are all current or past Shammies. As club coach, he tirelessly trained young players for over 10 years. Every volunteer coach at the rugby club has benefited from Dan's mentoring and guidance to help them be the best coaches and club members they can be. As well as coaching, Dan also referees games as needed and has managed the club's social media in previous seasons. It's not just the Shammies who benefit from Dan's volunteering, he also coaches at Sydney University Junior Rugby Club and Marrickville Cricket Club. Congratulations Dan and thank you for your dedication to your Club and community.
