I was pleased to join excited Inner Westies on Saturday 16 May at Mackey Park to celebrate the official opening of the new Mackey Park Canoe Ramp. The project replaced the existing sandstone steps with a new pontoon launching ramp, significantly improving the safety, accessibility and usability of the facility for non-powered watercraft. An accessible pathway connecting the ramp to the nearby Concordia Car Park ensures that the river is now truly within reach for paddlers of all abilities. Cooks River Alliance representative Jason L'Ecuyer spoke to the significance of the project and its importance to the river community. The ribbon was cut with members of the NSW Canoe Club who have championed this project from the beginning. Thank you, Simon, Dave, Bruce and Ty and current President Murray Waldron and Secretary Jackie Davis, for all your hard work. Thank you to Inner West Council Project leads Sandra Chin and Bruce Royds, and the entire Park Operations team for delivering this wonderful community asset. And thank you and congratulations to the many people across the community who have advocated for this project for many years. I look forward seeing you out on the river!
