I congratulate local legend Peggy Lane on being awarded one of two 2020 Inner West Senior Citizen of the Year Awards. Peggy retired last year at 81 after working at SDN childcare centre in Marrickville since 1974. Peggy was born in 1938 in Marrickville and has lived and worked Marrickville all her life attending Marrickville Public School and Dulwich Hill High. Early childhood education has changed a lot since Peggy first started working no more bathing children, washing clothes and combing hair for lice. But somethings never change. Peggy didn't mind the tantrums or the tears, she has been there for generations of smiles and laughs, watching our kids grow and develop their little personalities. In her 45 years at SDN Marrickville Peggy helped raise and look after generations of inner westies. Early childhood educators play a vital role in our kids' lives. They nurture, educate and support kids during their formative years and this award is a recognition of all that Peggy has contributed to Marrickville families for decades. Congratulations Peggy.
