Residents across the inner west are mopping up today following flash flooding in yesterday's storms. The Bureau of Meteorology reported that Marrickville Golf Club was the "wettest place in the State" with over 165 millilitres falling in just 24 hours. A month of rain fell on Marrickville in just two hours. I especially acknowledge the extraordinary volunteers from the Marrickville SES unit and Ashfield-Leichhardt SES, as well as first responders from our local police, fire and ambulance, who worked tirelessly to keep residents safe. There has been significant damage to homes, vehicles, businesses and sporting fields and while Marrickville, Tempe and Dulwich Hill residents are no strangers to flooding, emergency workers are reminding locals to please not drive, walk or enter flood waters. Rain is set to persist throughout the week and I remind local residents to call the SES on 132 500 if they need assistance or to call 000 if an emergency. We are a resilient community. We will get through this, as we have done with so many past flood events.
