Jo Haylen MP, Member for Summer Hill, has slammed the decision by the Liberal State Government to remove bus stops on key inner west routes in advance of the sell-off of local bus services.

The Submission Report issued by Roads and Maritime Services indicates that vital stops outside of Marrickville Town Hall will be retained, however, puts 35 other stops on the chopping block.

The news comes as Rozelle and Leichhardt residents have taken to social media to vent their anger at losing vital stops.

Ms Haylen has argued that the removal of bus stops is about making routes more profitable for potential private operators following the sell-off of Region 6 buses.

Comments attributable to Jo Haylen MP, Member for Summer Hill:

“This decision is yet another slap in the face for Inner West residents.

“It will particularly impact the elderly, commuters with disability, and inconvenience each and every person who relies on buses to get around.

“You don’t fix bus timetable issues by making them harder to catch!

“Commuters rely on their local stops, but this Government only cares about profits for big business and privatisation. This decision is about fattening the pig for sale.

“This Government’s contempt for public services knows no end, and extends to the locals who rely on them.”
