Congratulations to the organisers of Inner West Bird Fest 2025, proudly hosted by the Sydney Bird Club. This was a remarkable nine-day celebration from September 6-14 that brought urban birdlife and community together across my local area. This vibrant festival featured a wide program of events, including the Bird Art Market at Ashfield Town Hall, along with guided bird walks, bush-care regeneration activities, and talks celebrating local birdlife. The innovative Augmented Reality bird art activation spread across Inner West locations, encouraging residents to participate by hosting QR code signs. What made this festival extraordinary is Sydney Bird Club founders Stephanie Chambers and Amy Ranck's vision of creating inclusive birding spaces built on joy, curiosity, and creativity. When they started Sydney Bird Club, such welcoming spaces didn't exist, so they created something different – making birding accessible through mostly free events. The overwhelming community response – with many events booking out – demonstrates the hunger for nature connection in urban environments and the festival's success in bringing people together around our shared love of local birdlife. Congratulations to Stephanie, Amy, and the Sydney Bird Club for this inspiring celebration that strengthens our community while fostering environmental stewardship.
