Local police officer Huw Crosby showed remarkable courage and selfless service during the tragic events at Bondi Beach on 14 December last year. While off duty and spending time with his children, Huw made the brave decision to put himself in harm's way and protect the community. After making sure his children were safe, Huw called himself onto duty and ran towards the unfolding emergency to provide support. Despite not having access to his usual protective equipment or support, Huw located injured probationary Constable Jack Hibbert and provided critical first aid, remaining with him until ambulance crews arrived. Drawing on his police training and experience, Huw acted with courage and composure in an incredibly challenging situation. Huw's actions reflect the best qualities of public service. His unwavering commitment to the safety of others at the risk of his own demonstrates outstanding bravery and a deep commitment to protecting the community. His actions also highlight the sacrifices made not only by police officers, but by their families who share the weight of that service. On behalf of our community, thank you Huw for your selfless efforts and for your service.
