Congratulations and thank you to the Inner West community whose vision and persistence have delivered the GreenWay, a transformative active transport corridor linking the Cooks River to Iron Cove. The idea began decades ago with residents and bushcare advocates who imagined a green corridor along the old freight rail line, creating space for walking, cycling, bushland restoration and cultural connection. This grassroots vision became reality through the tireless efforts of so many across our community. I recognise local campaigners Alex Lofts, Bruce Ashley, Jo Blackman, Suzy Carter, Nick Chapman, Alice Hickey, Bronwyn Holland, Colin Jones, Jennifer Kent, Mary Osborn, and Councillors Mark Drury, Lucille McKenna, Jeanette Wang, Simon Emsley, Anna York, Max Phillips, Linda Eisler, Sam Byrne, Peter Olive, and former local members Carmel Tebbutt and Linda Burney, whose petition campaign galvanised thousands. Whilst these individuals matter, they represent countless thousands who campaigned, signed petitions and fought for this vision. Congratulations to Inner West Council for its commitment in delivering this project under Mayor Darcy Byrne and the many staff such as Joanne McDonald and Lauren McIver, who brought it life. The GreenWay is a victory for community activism and a legacy for future generations.
