The Golden Letters Club in Marrickville is an online community pen-pal service reaching out to people in need of support. In Australia, one in four seniors live alone and one in five experience social isolation. During this pandemic, as we physically isolate, social connection has never been more important. Community groups like Golden Letters are providing essential social links to vulnerable people self-isolating due to age, disability and underlying health conditions. The group has over 200 members from across the inner west, who write to Marrickville residents in need of emotional support or a just a pen pal to help them through these challenging times. Community groups like Golden Letters aim to bring a little joy and connection during isolation and beyond. The group connects volunteers and has been the source of many great friendships. Thank you to all those inner westies who have taken the time to put pen to paper and write a letter to someone in need. Your letters have brought a smile to so many people when they needed it most.
