I was honoured to recently open artist Genevieve McCrea's exhibit In Between the Now and Not Yet at the Chrissie Cotter Gallery. This exhibit marks a significant milestone for Genevieve, whose work has been part of our community for over 35 years. Throughout her career, Genevieve has explored the stories found in homes, landscapes and everyday objects, creating work that reflects a deep connection to place and memory. This latest exhibition captures a personal chapter in her life, drawing on her experience of Huntington's disease and early dementia. Rather than stepping away from creative practice, Genevieve continues to use art to connect and express, demonstrating the important role creativity can play in navigating life's challenges. In Between the Now and Not Yet is not only an exhibition of artistic skill but also a reflection on resilience, identity and the enduring power of storytelling through art. The Opening night was packed with an audience reflective of Genevieve's unique perspective and journey and of her and her family's generous spirit and connection to their community, particularly in Haberfield.
