That this House:

  1. Acknowledges food insecurity continues to be a significant concern for over 100,000 people in New South Wales, a quarter of whom are children.
  2. Notes that despite Government targets to reduce food wastage, 190,000 tonnes of commercial and industrial food waste is sent to landfill each year.
  3. Notes that France recently outlawed supermarkets from disposing of or destroying unsold food.
  4. Calls on the Government to investigate introducing similar laws, to compel supermarkets to donate unsold food to food-banks, charities, shelters and refuges.
