That this House:
- Acknowledges food insecurity continues to be a significant concern for over 100,000 people in New South Wales, a quarter of whom are children.
- Notes that despite Government targets to reduce food wastage, 190,000 tonnes of commercial and industrial food waste is sent to landfill each year.
- Notes that France recently outlawed supermarkets from disposing of or destroying unsold food.
- Calls on the Government to investigate introducing similar laws, to compel supermarkets to donate unsold food to food-banks, charities, shelters and refuges.
