Congratulations to Dr Susan Jacobs from Dulwich Hill who was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to women's health in obstetrics and gynaecology in the 2026 Australia Day Honours. Dr Jacobs' early research looked at the experience of non-English speaking migrants, examining how a better understanding of different cultural practice could help bridge care gaps in pregnancy and childbirth. Through her work as a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist she also looked at how Psychosocial factors could affect pregnancy and overall health outcomes for women. In 1995 Dr Jacobs established a weekly outreach clinic at the Aboriginal Medical Service in Redfern to provide culturally appropriate care, that was accessible and affordable. Her clinics ensured every woman who walked through the door felt cared for, had her questions answered and had seamless continuity of care with the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital gynaecological team. The positive impact of her work cannot be understated, and I thank Dr Jacobs for her tireless work and congratulate her on this well-deserved honour.
