I would like to acknowledge Debjani (Deb) Sarkar, a remarkable Dulwich Hill local whose work exemplifies community leadership and social justice. As Chair of Biyani House ‑ Revesby Women's Community Shelter, Debjani has delivered groundbreaking modular housing providing safe crisis accommodation for women and children fleeing domestic violence. This innovative project, opened during Homelessness Week, represents hope made tangible for our most vulnerable community members. Through her work with Parlour, Debjani champions gender equity in architecture, co-hosting the "On the Verandah" series that amplifies marginalised voices. Her advocacy extends to the Inner West Council's Housing Affordability Committee, where she fights for housing as a fundamental human right. What strikes me most about Debjani is her unwavering belief that everyone deserves dignity, safety, and opportunity. From her work with Expat Women Architects to her current sustainability studies at the University of Sydney, she demonstrates that real change happens when we combine expertise with compassion. Debjani's leadership drives positive change throughout our community. Her dedication to empowering vulnerable women and creating inclusive environments represents the highest ideals of public service. We are fortunate to have such an inspiring advocate for equity and justice – thank you Debjani!
