Congratulations to Mrs Elisabeth Pickering on being awarded a Member of the Order of Australia — a richly deserved recognition for outstanding service to secondary education and to the community. Elisabeth spent over three decades as a specialist school counsellor at Cabramatta High School, from 1991 to 2022, supporting generations of students through some of the most challenging periods of their lives. In 1992, she authored the New Arrivals Program 'Settling In', and later coordinated the DET Refugee Resettlement Project. She also founded both the Peace Garden Project and the Cabramatta IEC Recycling Project, leaving a lasting legacy at the school. Beyond the classroom, Elisabeth volunteered with the Sydney Indo Chinese Refugee Youth Support Service since 1991 and served on advisory committees for Burnside Cabramatta and Careforce Migrant Services. Her contributions were recognised with numerous awards, including a Humanitarian Award for her work with torture and trauma survivors, and the Director-General's Award from the NSW Department of Education and Training. Thank you Elisabeth for your decades of dedication to students and the broader community.
