Jo Haylen moves that this house:

1. Notes the value of companion animals, with Animals Australia noting Australia has one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world, with over 1.3 million households in New South Wales alone owning a dog.
2. Notes that companion animals encourage a more active, social and healthy lifestyle, connecting people to the outdoors.
3. Notes that the prohibition on dogs on public transport (except ferries) limits the ability of owners to take full advantage of the city's open spaces and our public transport network and puts Sydney out of step with other global cities that allow such travel.
4. Calls on the Government to allow companion animals to travel on public transport whilst leashed and properly contained outside of peak hour periods.
