Chrys Meader was a dedicated historian and an icon of the Inner West. Her walking tours of the area were legendary, and her chronicles of Marrickville's history provided our community with a profound sense of place and belonging. Chrys also worked with the Enmore Theatre, another Inner West landmark, to document an entire history of the venue, and wrote a comprehensive history of Henson Park. Chrys' father Charlie Meader had his own storied legacy recognised with the naming of the Charlie Meader Memorial Gates at the entrance to Henson Park, following53 years of service to Marrickville Council. Chrys sadly passed away in November of last year, and while it is difficult to encompass in a single tribute just how much she gave to the community and uncovered about the history of our area, I am proud that Inner West Council has renamed this landmark auditorium at Marrickville Library the Chrys Meader Auditorium. Given her decades of service at Marrickville Library, and her deep love of Marrickville's history, naming the Auditorium at Marrickville's award winning library is a fitting tribute to this remarkable woman.
