I congratulate Marrickville local Caitlin Delaney, who was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in the 2026 Australia Day Honours. Caitlin was recognised for her significant service to cancer advocacy, care, research and awareness, and her work in embryology. Throughout her life, Caitlin has been on both sides of the healthcare system. She spent her career working as an IVF scientist before her own advanced ovarian cancer diagnosis saw her become the patient. While Caitlin received industry‑leading treatment, she reflected on her work as an embryologist and the experience of losing her beloved mother-in-law. Those events inspired her to become a patient advocate. Following her treatment, Caitlin established CareFully, an organisation that works with healthcare providers to deliver more gentle, person‑centred care. Her work with organisations like Ovarian Cancer Australia and Rare Cancer Australia has transformed care for countless other Australian cancer patients. I thank Caitlin for her passionate advocacy work for not only ovarian cancer sufferers but also all the cancer patients who now have access to more compassionate care. I congratulate her on that well‑deserved honour.
