Jo Haylen, Member for Summer Hill, today called on the Minister to reaffirm his commitment to funding the GreenWay after yesterday’s State Budget allocated only $200,000 to design of the project.

The Minister had committed to funding the GreenWay with the support of local Councils at a meeting with Inner West MPs in April this year.

The GreenWay was fully funded under the previous Labor Government, only to be abandoned by Gladys Berejiklian as former Transport Minister.

The State Budget revealed Active Transport infrastructure received $5 million less than last year ($30.6 million was allocated in 2015-16, versus $25.3 million allocated in 2016-17).

Jo Haylen today called on the Minister to acknowledge the strong community support for the GreenWay and to commit the money to make it a reality.

Quotes attributable to Jo Haylen, Member for Summer Hill

“The Budget committed $200,000 to design the GreenWay, but the GreenWay has already been designed – many times over.

“This is a worthy infrastructure project and it’s ready to be built.

“The Inner West has had it with the delays and deferral and I’m disappointed the Budget didn’t follow through with the commitment to get this done.

“It’s crucial that we invest in active transport to reduce congestion, improve health outcomes and cut emissions, and this Budget has missed the opportunity to get the Inner West moving.”
